Job Title:  Data Visualization and Graphics Design Officer

Job Overview:

The Data Visualization and Graphic Designer Officer is responsible for designing and producing compelling visual content that communicates data insights, research findings, and strategic messages to diverse audiences. The role requires a balance of technical data literacy and creative graphic design skills to ensure data stories are accessible, accurate, and visually appealing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design static and interactive data visualizations, dashboards, infographics, charts, maps, and reports.
  • Collaborate with the data analysts, researchers, and communication teams to translate complex data into clear visual narratives.
  • Develop brand-consistent graphic templates for reports, presentations, and digital content.
  • Ensure visualizations align with accessibility, accuracy, and best-practice design principles.
  • Support publication design including layout for reports, policy briefs, and digital outputs.
  • Use tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, Figma, or similar to create visual content.
  • Manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Stay updated on trends and tools in data visualization and design.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum BSc in Data Visualization, Graphics Design, Communications and Information Technology, or any related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data visualization, graphic design, or a similar role.
Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in use of graphic design packages including, but not limited to, Adobe Illustrator, PowerBi, InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Figma.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau or Power BI)
  • Proficiency in data storytelling and UI/UX designs for immersive user experience
  • Ability to clean, interpret, and work with data in Excel, Google Sheets, or Python/R.
  • Knowledge of web-based visualization tools (e.g., D3.js or HTML/CSS) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Desired Qualities:
Detail-oriented with an eye for aesthetics and accuracy.
Able to simplify complex information for non-technical audiences.
Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable receiving feedback.
Team player, and ability to plan and work with little or no supervision while adhering to deadlines.
Experience working with NGOs, government agencies, or research institutions is a plus.
